PASADENA, Calif.- The demand for energy is expected to triple by 2050, and new investment and technology will be vital to solving the crisis in resource sustainability. Meet experts on the latest green technologies, energy storage, energy production, and renewables at GreenTech 2007, a June 14 company showcase at the Hilton Pasadena, 168 S. Los Robles Ave.
The event is hosted by the California Institute of Technology Office of Technology Transfer; Entretech, a nonprofit organization housed on the Caltech campus that helps entrepreneurs get their start; and Materia Inc., a green chemical-technology company in Pasadena that was founded by Caltech's most recent Nobel laureate, Robert Grubbs.
The event will showcase innovations emerging from Caltech, UCLA, and USC, as well as those from green companies. Conference topics include the overall global-energy picture, solar-energy technology, and products from renewable feed stocks like corn and cellulose. A representative from Cargill Inc. will discuss the company's plans to develop chemicals from soy and other seeds.
Attendees will hear a group of invited speakers that includes Nathan S. Lewis, Caltech's George R. Argyros Professor of Chemistry, California Institute of Technology, whose team is using nanotechnology to develop more efficient solar cells; entrepreneur and Caltech alumnus Bill Gross, founder of Idealab and CEO of Energy Innovations, a solar-power company developing the world's first high-concentration solar-power system; Michael A. Giardello, CEO of Materia; and Rachid Yazami, visiting associate in chemistry and chemical engineering at Caltech, who will discuss material science issues related to lithium ion batteries.
A venture capitalist panel will hear presentations and will include representatives from Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Battery Ventures, TPG Growth, Mohr Davidow Ventures, and Rustic Canyon Partners.
Registration fees are $200 for Entretech members or $295 for nonmembers. For more information, visit http://www.GreenTech2007.com or call 626-356-9933.
