To help capture the impact of Caltech research and provide information on the federal funding that helps support it, the Office of Communications and External Relations has created the Investing in Innovation site at ResearchImpact.Caltech.edu.
The site highlights how Caltech research and education fuels US leadership in science and technology, enhances the health and well-being of the public and the planet, launches new industries, and creates the technologies we rely on in our everyday lives.
It includes sections devoted to these six key research areas:
- Human Health: improving and saving lives by pioneering a deeper understanding of the body and how it works
- Earthquakes and Seismology: leading the world in seismic measurement and monitoring for over a century
- The Future of Energy: exploring efficient, affordable, and accessible sources of energy
- Space Exploration and Discovery: driving observation and exploration of the universe and beyond to broaden understanding of our origins and future
- AI and Quantum Computing: integrating deep theoretical expertise and interdisciplinary excellence to advance computing capabilities and then leverage those tools to foster scientific discovery and address societal problems
- Robotics and Autonomous Systems: Designing self-driving cars, self-assembling space robots, prosthetic devices, and other tools and instruments to help navigate unpredictable environments where humans can't go
It also includes a snapshot of the Institute's contributions to the region's economy and answers frequently asked questions about research funding.
The site is designed as a resource for the community that highlights the individual and collective impact of research performed at Caltech. Members of the community can share stories about their research, what motivates them in that work, and what impact they have had—or hope or have—by emailing [email protected].
