Applied Physics Seminar
***Pizza for attendees at 11:40am in Watson Lobby
Abstract:
This seminar is built upon SiRF 2026 invited talk with the same title, that goes into SiGe BiCMOS technology requirements to serve LEO SATCOM User Terminals and Optical Interconnects. Technology characteristics and circuit results of
platforms currently in production for these applications are presented. It also discusses prospects of low-noise and high-speed BiCMOS for both applications and technology roadmap, including the heterogeneous integration panorama. Cryogenic operation of SiGe HBT, a longstanding topic of partnership between Caltech and STMicroelectronics is also discussed.
More about the Speaker:
Pascal Chevalier received his Ph.D. in Electronics from the University of Lille, France, in 1998, focusing on InP-based HEMT technology. After four years at Alcatel Microelectronics, Belgium, working on BiCMOS technology, he joined STMicroelectronics, France, in 2002. His work has since spanned SiGe BiCMOS, RF-SOI, and Si Photonics technologies. He is currently an Analog/RF Technology Architect and Fellow of Technical Staff. His research interests include technologies for wireless and wireline communications, design-technology co-optimization, and heterogeneous integration of Si and III-V devices.
