Coleman Chamber Music Series: Quatuor Ebène
- Public Event
Quatuor Ebène is named for ebony, the dense and finely-textured woods prized in instrument-making. And no ensemble puts its instruments to more enthralling use. "Four splendid musicians at home in a variety of styles who are not afraid of sawing off the limb they're sitting on," enthused ClevelandClassical.com. "A string quartet that can easily morph into a jazz band," wrote the New York Times after a performance that included works by Haydn and Debussy…and Chick Corea.
Audiences have responded enthusiastically to this fresh perspective. "… an almost palpable sense of wonder," noted Gramophone after awarding the ensemble Recording of the Year in 2009.
