Caltech/JPL/ArtCenter DATA VISUALIZATION PROGRAM PROJECT PRESENTATIONS
Data to Discovery is a data visualization, art and design research initiative based at NASA/JPL, Caltech and ArtCenter College of Design. We co-design advanced interactive visualization systems with NASA/JPL and Caltech scientists and engineers. These systems help scientists make discoveries
Summer Program Final Presentations:
HINDSIGHT
PI: sammi LEI | JPL, darwin CHIU | JPL
[PROBLEM]Engineers planning drives for the Mars 2020 Perseverance rover must justify their plans by referencing past successes, but a lack of effective tools forces them to rely on institutional memory, slowing down critical decisions.
[SOLUTION]We present MARS 2020 HINDSIGHT, an interactive visualization tool with a novel query engine that supports searches based on drive similarity. HINDSIGHT enables planners to instantly find and visually compare analogous past drives, allowing them to confidently and efficiently justify future mission plans
PREVUE
PI: casey LAW | CALTECH , matthew GRAHAM | CALTECH , martjin OEI | CALTECH
[PROBLEM]One of the key challenges in current astronomical survey research workflows lies in navigating a wide range of online data catalogs containing hundreds of data bands over time with the goal of detecting anomalous objects of interest.
[SOLUTION] We present PREVUE, a web-based application designed to reveal key data through catalog previews, with visual data summarization to enhance the entry points for exploratory analysis and scientific sensemaking.
*PLUS* QUICK VIEW SURF: SOLAR EVENT VIEWER
PI: ashish MAHABAL | CALTECH , allan LABRADOR | CALTECH
See a preview of a tool created to help researchers explore over 7 years of solar events.
