Flavor, Accidentally
Hannah Banks, New York University,

I will discuss a  new class of flavor models in which the spurion which breaks the Standard Model flavor symmetries transforms in a non-minimal representation. Hierarchies in fermion masses, which arise from multiple insertions of this spurion, may then be generated in a technically natural, accidental manner, from a handful of untuned elements in the UV. This feat relies explicitly on the non-Abelian nature of the symmetry, distinguishing it from Froggatt-Nielsen-like approaches. I will demonstrate that the pattern of beyond-the-Standard Model flavor violating operators at dimension-6 in the SMEFT can radically differ from traditional scenarios, emphasising the need for a broad experimental flavor programme exploring all generations.

The talk is in 469 Lauritsen.
