Join us for a lecture by Nobel laureate, film maker, and Caltech ​Professor Emeritus Kip Thorne as he reflects on the ​development of gravitational-wave astronomy, LIGO's first observation of gravitational waves in 2015, and today's routine observation of black hole collisions. Dr. Thorne will explore the astrophysics of colliding black holes, the techniques used to observe them, the importance of mentorship and large-scale collaboration, and the human dimension of scientific progress, ranging from political battles to the creation of 21st-century technologies.
