Extreme environments, whether in permafrost-affected northern regions or on the lunar surface, pose critical engineering challenges to the design, maintenance, and long-term sustainability of infrastructure systems. This talk presents a unified framework for Digital Twin technologies that integrates geophysical sensing, satellite imaging, data-driven modeling, and predictive geo-mechanical tools to enhance infrastructure resilience in such contexts. Drawing from applied research in northern Canada and planetary analog environments, I will highlight how Digital Twins are transforming decision-making for permafrost-sensitive infrastructure and enabling early risk detection. The talk will also explore recent advances in non-invasive geophysical methods for ice and volatiles detection on the Moon, and how these tools inform future in-situ resource utilization (ISRU) and lunar habitat planning.
