Veritas Forum at Caltech
How can math be beautiful? Do its aesthetics arise out of a Platonic reality? Or is our sense of design an anthropic accident of the evolution of our minds, out of the same multiverse as in Dr. Stephen Hawking's "The Grand Design?"
Dr. Satyan Devadoss, associate professor of math at Williams College, will speak about these questions and his personal experience. Dr. Devadoss has taught at Williams College for more than eight years. Before joining the faculty of the Mathematics and Statistics Department at Williams, Professor Devadoss was a Ross Assistant Professor at The Ohio State University. He holds a Ph.D. in mathematics from The Johns Hopkins University. In addition, he has won several teaching awards and given a highly-acclaimed lecture series with the Teaching Company titled "The Shape of Nature." His research interests lie in algebraic and combinatorial structures in topology and geometry, while drawing from ideas in computational geometry.
If you have questions about math, art, and life, you won't want to miss this event. A reception with the speaker will follow.

This event is generously supported by the Graduate Student Council (GSC) and the Caltech Y. Sponsored by Caltech Christian Fellowship, Korea Campus Crusade for Christ, Life Christian Fellowship, and the Newman Center.
About Veritas Forums
Where does morality come from? Isn't science rapidly approaching a complete explanation of nature? Do you ever have doubts about your worldview? Where can I find meaning and fulfillment?
College students around the world are asking themselves and their friends these questions, but there is often no real place to explore these questions alongside brilliant faculty and leading thinkers.
Veritas Forums are events that engage students and faculty in discussions about life's hardest questions and the relevance of Jesus Christ to all of life.
Veritas Forums are created and hosted by campus student organizations, connected to a network of 85 campuses nationwide, and supported by the national Veritas Forum team.
