Announcement of Caltech's 10th President

January 05, 2026

To: The Caltech Community
From: Dave Thompson, Chair of the Caltech Board of Trustees and Chair of the Presidential Selection Committee, and Jonas Zmuidzinas, Merle Kingsley Professor of Physics and Chair of the Presidential Search Committee

We invite you to join us tomorrow, January 6, at 11 a.m. on the Athenaeum West Lawn for the announcement of Caltech's next president, the 10th in a distinguished succession of Institute leaders.

Tomorrow's event is the culmination of a nearly nine-month-long search, following the April 2025 announcement that Thomas F. Rosenbaum will step down as president at the end of the academic year. The community's input and ideas, provided in meetings, email, and online, were instrumental in guiding us to this successful and exciting outcome.

We would like to mark this next chapter in Caltech's history by bringing the community together to meet and welcome the Institute's next leader who will guide Caltech's path forward. We hope you will be able to join us for a brief program, followed by a community lunch along the Olive Walk. No reservations are necessary.

For those unable to attend in person, the announcement will be streamed live at caltech.edu
